Why does Jerry Wick prefer 9 x 12 booklet/catalog envelopes? Let him count the ways…

1. They stand out from the rest of my mail…. even if it’s just white paper. However, think of the possibilities—red for Valentine’s Day or Christmas, green for March, pastels for April, and so on throughout the year.
2. The letter carrier puts them on the bottom of the pile, which means you automatically save the best mail for last!
3. There’s a huge area on the outside to print a supportive marketing message like; “All the good stuff you asked for is inside” or “Statement Enclosed” or “Your Favorite Clothing Catalog is Here.”
4. There’s room inside for something other than a catalog (i.e. letter, samples of your product, registration card, etc.).
5. You know the “25^th Year in Business” message that some businesses put on the outside of their envelopes? How about a huge “25^th Year in Business” label instead of printing on the envelope? I like the added attention it draws.
6. Bigger is better, right? Well maybe not all the time, like my waistline for instance!

Pay attention to how you open your own mail. I usually make 3 piles. In the first pile are things I’m most interested in like checks and anything hand-addressed. The second pile has invoices, solicitation letters and postcards, and then my favorite pile—“lumpy mail” and 9x12s. If someone’s going to spend extra money to send me something oversized, I’m going to pay special attention to it.

7. Final reason I like 9x12 envelopes—we recently installed an inserter that auto inserts into them.
