Label Artwork Guidelines

In order to ensure you the best quality print reproduction, these requirements should be followed:

• The artwork and/or type should be kept at least 1/16" in from the edges.
• Bleeds should extend 1/16" beyond the edges of the label.
• Line weights need to be a minimum of 0.5 pt. or 0.007 in.
• For positive or reverse copy type should be no smaller than 5 pt.
• Caution: Most serif typefaces do not reverse well.
• Type that is 12 pt. or smaller should be set to overprint.
• Registration variation is + or - 1/32". Please set trap to accommodate 1/32" press movement (a minimum of 0.5 pt. or 0.007 inch trap (Illustrator 1.0 pt. or 0.0139 inch). Trap may be adjusted for specific printing needs.
• Overprint black.

Our printing process dictates that we convert all label orders to electronic files. We would prefer to receive all jobs in electronic form. If you would like to find out more about our electronic capabilities please take a look at our Files & Formats section.

We realize that it is not always possible to get an electronic file. It is quite important that the art we receive is of the highest quality possible. Faxes and photo copies will not provide us with the quality needed to produce an acceptable finished product. In those instances where it is impossible to acquire an electronic file we request a PMT or a laser print, on non-porous paper, of at least 600 dots-per-inch resolution. We prefer 1200 or higher.

In order to ascertain the highest quality from our presses, spot color label jobs are printed at 100 lpi, while process color label jobs are printed at 133 lpi. Please use these screens appropriately when supplying us with camera ready art. When we scan camera ready art in to the system we attempt to use your art as supplied. At times though it is necessary to replace type and/or graphics due to poor reproductive quality. In those instances where text must be replaced we reserve the right to select a typeface as close as possible from our libraries. If you know what the type face is we will gladly use it if we have it in our libraries. In those instances where screened art must be replaced we would like to know the value of the screen(s), if necessary we will select our own.
