Sales reps: have you ever bugged me with one of these poor sales call tactics?

• You’re late.
• You tell me your entire company history.
• You don’t ask about my challenges; you just go on blabbing about what you can do for me.
• You use a bunch of platitudes about quality or service.
• You show me your mission statement – who cares?
• You can’t answer my questions.
• You go over time allotted.

You want to do it right?         

• Do some research. It’s so easy to do this now. Check out a company website, Google, or LinkedIn.
• Show appreciation for the meeting, but don’t overdo it.
• Say you’ll be respectful of my time and then actually be respectful.
• State the purpose of the meeting.
• Give a short introduction of your capabilities.
• Ask what my challenges are and offer a possible solution or tell me you’ll get back to me with a solution.
• Follow up with a written thank-you note, not email.
• Email later, and include a solution or product I might be interested in.

Seems so simple. I wonder why so few can do it?
