Remembering Memorial Day

While we appreciate the three-day weekend, Memorial Day is an important time to remember those brave service members who’ve died for our freedoms.

More About Memorial Day

• Memorial Day originally honored soldiers who died in the Civil War (1861-1865), but now honors those who died in any war while serving with the United States.
• In 1966, Congress declared Waterloo, New York the birthplace of Memorial Day.
• Memorial Day is also called Decoration Day.

Remembering and Supporting Along with Western States

Here are some ways Western States Envelope & Label gives back to our service members and how you can reach out too:

• Red Shirt Fridays – To remember and show our support of their sacrifice, our employees wear special red t-shirts every Friday. All proceeds from t-shirt sales are donated to organizations that support service members.  You can view photos of our participants here.
• Stockings @ Christmas – Every holiday season, we fill Christmas stockings with essential items and ship them to soldiers overseas.  You can view photos of the gifts here.
• Hiring Veterans – We’re proud to offer employment opportunities to veterans at all of our locations and participate in the ‘Hiring Our Heroes’ job fair.  In fact, 6% of our employees are veterans.
• Take a Veteran Fishing – Some of our employees get involved by taking a veteran fishing. You can view photos from previous veteran events here.
